Film ini diadaptasi dari volume pertama Daichōhen Doraemon dengan judul yang sama. Film ini merupakan versi yang diperluas dari bab Nobita's Dinosaur, yang ditampilkan dalam manga aslinya. Film ini juga mendapatkan adaptasi live-action [[Doraemon: Nobita's Dinosuar Live on Stage|film aksi langsung]]. Film ini dibuat ulang pada tahun 2006 dengan judul Dinosaurus Nobita 2006.
